System / Software Processes

Generic work activity flowcharts are available for the following types of system acquisition programs:

These process flowcharts collectively encompass the majority of system acquisition programs. They are intended to provide useful information that can be applied to most acquisition programs. The Product Team should use them as guides to identify the tasks that should be applied to the specific situation facing the team. The paths are "evolving" in that additional information will be added as it is developed (e.g., templates and good examples of planning documents, "best practice" that Product Teams can use to get started in the right direction). If you have good examples or ideas that might help others implement their programs more effectively, please contact David Woodson, ASU-120, 267-7601.

There are companion work activity flowcharts for several critical functional disciplines (e.g., human factors engineering, logistics support, information systems security, configuration management, baseline management, program management, and metrics development / reporting) that are intrinsic elements of overall system implementation. These "discipline-specific" activity flowcharts are intended to alert the acquisition specialist of actions they should at specific points in the system process flowchart. A single path is provided for each functional discipline since they tend to require similar actions for all system acquisition programs, irrespective of the mix of COTS / NDI / developmental hardware and software.
